The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom includes many collectibles for players to try to discover, but the rewards aren’t always worth it.

Summary

  • There are a total of 147 Bubbul Gems in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
  • Koltin's normal rewards only require giving him 46 Bubbul Gems, but he believes consuming every one in Hyrule will help him achieve his dream.
  • Collecting the remaining 101 Bubbul Gems will earn Koltin's Fabric, and speaking to his brother, Kilton, will trigger a special ending to Koltin's story.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is packed with side content to complete while working toward the ultimate goal of defeating Ganondorf, but one of the most prevalent throughout all of Hyrule is finding Bubbul Gems and bringing them to Koltin at his shop. Bubbul Gems can only be found within the many caves that have appeared following the Upheaval, and are looted from Bubbulfrogs, who drop them after being struck – usually by an arrow. Koltin provides frequent rewards for bringing him Bubbul Gems, but gathering every single one across Hyrule is a tall order that dedicated players will nonetheless be rewarded for.

Similar to trying to collect all the Korok Seeds for Hestu, finding the locations of all the Bubbul Gems in the game can be a difficult and time-consuming pursuit. Players will essentially have to explore every nook and cranny of Hyrule, making sure they don't overlook a single cave, as each on contains a Bubbul Frog. Locating all 147 Bubbul Gems in TOTK will take a long time, and Koltin only offers rewards for the first 46, but dedicated players can earn a secret reward after the other 101 are turned in.

Koltin Turns Into A Blupee After Eating Every Bubbul Gem

Koltin In Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's Koltin is the brother of Kilton, owner and proprietor of the Fang and Bone traveling shop in Breath of the Wild. Unlike his monster-obsessed brother, Koltin dreams of one day becoming a Satori, aka the Lord of the Mountain, which he believes is possible by consuming Bubbul Gems. The player is thus tasked with bringing Bubbul Gems to Koltin, for which he provides rewards of everything from Hinox Toenails to pieces of the Mystic armor set. Once there are 101 Bubbul Gems left in the world, Koltin says he has no more rewards to give.

Every cave has a Blupee outside its entrance, so tuning the Purah Pad's Sensor to search for Blupees may help in finding caves while exploring Hyrule.

If a player chooses to find the remaining 101 Bubbul Gems and bring them to Koltin, they are met with a very sweet story surprise. Koltin gives players Koltin's Fabric, which can become a beautiful, glowing paraglider design, and then Koltin transforms into a Blupee. Players can then go to Kilton and tell him what has happened to his brother, which prompts Kilton to move Koltin's shop to the top of Satori Mountain, where it will be surrounded by Blupees when Link visits.

How Many Caves Are In Tears Of The Kingdom?

To match the number of Bubbulfrogs and Bubbul Gems, there are 147 caves in Tears of the Kingdom. In order to find the 147 Bubbulfrogs hidden throughout the world to collect the gems, it will require either a lot of exploration on the part of the player or the use of guides. Whether earning the reward of the paraglider fabric, easy access to Blupees, and seeing Koltin realize his dream is deserving of all that trouble will ultimately be up to the player to decide.

Every region has a tree with bright pink leaves; leaving an offering of fruit underneath these trees will summon a Satori that will highlight all that region's cave entrances.

Koltin's paraglider fabric that glows in the dark is a beautiful reward, and helping Koltin to realize his lifelong dream is a heartwarming story, but tracking down all 147 Bubbul Gems will require a lot of work. This is likely an objective that only completionists will be interested in, as all other rewards from feeding Koltin Bubbul Gems can be acquired fairly easily through standard exploration while beating the game. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom provides players with many fun side objectives and collectibles like this to encourage exploration, and at least this one is better than Hestu's Gift.
