Highlights

  • Fans love Bobby Lashley and refuse to boo him, even though he's supposed to be a villain. WWE needs to listen to the fans and turn him into a babyface.
  • Lashley's alliance with The Street Profits is hurting both teams. They don't have a clear direction and fans aren't interested. WWE needs to fix this.
  • Bobby Lashley has the potential to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. WWE should be consistent with his booking and give him bigger feuds to showcase his star power.

One of the criticisms that fans threw towards WWE regarding Bobby Lashley was that they failed to use him properly many times in his career. Fans will remember that they once tried to push Lashley in the late 2000s, but despite their efforts, he failed to become the superstar that he is today. Vince McMahon himself was a big fan of Bobby Lashley and saw him as a future main eventer. He was personally involved with him on television and even had Donald Trump back him during the Battle of the Billionaires match at WrestleMania 23.

But the push ultimately failed, and Lashley left WWE in 2008. He rebuilt himself in TNA and returned to WWE on the Raw after WrestleMania 34. From that time until now, Lashley has rebuilt himself again. He’s a much bigger star now, and unlike the last time, the fans actually love him so much that they’re cheering for him when he’s supposed to be a villain. It’s about time WWE actually listens to the fans and does the right thing with Bobby Lashley.

WWE Needs To Turn Bobby Lashley Into A Babyface

Fans Are Refusing To Boo Bobby Lashley

  • 2 Time WWE Champion
  • 3 Time WWE United States Champion
  • Leads The Street Profits

All they have to do is capitalize on his momentum right now. He’s aligned himself with The Street Profits, and while on paper this sounds like a good thing, in reality, it’s actually hurting both the team of Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins and Bobby Lashley. Lashley constantly has to remind everyone that he’s a heel right now, but fans are not having it.

They see him as a hero, and they cheer him. It doesn’t matter what WWE does with Lashley – he’s cheating to win matches against wrestlers like Carlito and doing all sorts of other things that heels do, like helping his team during their matches. Lashley recently talked about this with WrestlingNews.co and said that one of the reasons he’s been getting such big reactions is because he’s genuine and hasn’t been forced upon fans. It shows because, despite constantly portraying him as a heel, the fans are only cheering him more and more.

“I think part of it with me is I think people know that it’s genuine. There’s all kinds of other people that come into the business and play characters and everything like that. I’m me. I’m me and I’ve always been. You can see it. You can you can feel it. Wherever I go, you know, I’d meet fans and stuff like that. They see who I am. They know who I am. And I think the crowd is really starting — they really gravitate to that. I’ve not been shoved down anybody throats like, if you look on our social media, you see maybe a rare glimpse me here and there. So I’m not shoved down everybody’s throat. It’s just, it’s real. It’s something real that I think the company really needs to focus on and work with, because it’s real. And you don’t get that too much in this business.” (H/t Wrestletalk)

Another problem is that his alliance with the Street Profits doesn’t have a real direction. They don’t seem to have a goal, they don’t even have a name for their faction, and even more importantly, they don’t seem like a good fit together. What’s in it for either one of them to team up with each other? Fans aren’t talking about them, and their whole alliance has been an afterthought since it first started.

Bobby Lashley Could Go After The Bloodline

Roman Reigns Vs Bobby Lashley Makes Sense

Bobby Lashley vs Roman Reigns

Perhaps the most obvious thing that WWE can do is turn the whole group into babyfaces. The crowd would love it since Bobby Lashley is already a face for them. But with the Street Profits aligned with them, they can even do an angle against The Bloodline with Bobby Lashley ultimately challenging Roman Reigns for the Undispuated WWE Universal Championship. He’s been one of the most protected wrestlers in the company, and, surprisingly, WWE hasn’t done a Roman Reigns vs Bobby Lashley match for the title yet. The last time they even squared off was two years back, and fans need someone like Lashley to step up and challenge The Tribal Chief.

WWE Needs To Be Consistent With Bobby Lashley's Booking

Bobby Lashley Missed WrestleMania 39

To effectively capitalize on Bobby Lashley’s ever-growing popularity, Triple H needs to properly build his storylines. Lashley was upset that he didn’t get to wrestle at WrestleMania 39. He was scheduled to have a match against Bray Wyatt, but due to Wyatt’s illness, the plan got canceled, and they didn’t book another rivalry for The All Mighty. On the Tribute to the Troops edition of SmackDown recently, Bobby Lashley defeated Karrion Cross in a US Title tournament match.

But right now, going after the US Championship doesn’t make much sense for Lashley. He’s a bigger star and needs to have bigger feuds in WWE. Right now they can’t do much with him on SmackDown because the biggest star on the brand is Roman Reigns, and it doesn’t seem like WWE wants to do a Roman Reigns vs Bobby Lashley match just yet. And there’s also Cody Rhodes who needs to finish his story at next year’s WrestleMania. Perhaps after that, WWE can have him go after the World Title against Cody, and since these two have never feuded before, it’ll be a very interesting match to see.
