Cody Rhodes and Brandi Rhodes are one of wrestling's most popular couples. A few years back, they left WWE in 2016 together and did the same earlier this year with All Elite Wrestling. They also held C and E-level executive positions in the company and even had a reality television show based on their life called Rhodes to the Top. Those who watched the premiere episode of the series may remember that, during Brandi's baby shower, she revealed having issues with Cody's sister, Teil. But how did their relationship become strained?

Cody Rhodes' Sister Was The Most Difficult Family Member For Brandi
During the second half of the episode, Brandi says that she's been on Teil's bad side since they first saw each other. She elaborates further that the day she wrestled her first televised match, Teil wrote a long message about how Brandi didn't ask her if she could use the "Rhodes" surname on television. Brandi revealed that she and Dusty Rhodes were close and that she had asked his permission about using the Rhodes name.
"The day that I was supposed to have my very first wrestling match on live television. I see a message from Cody's sister Teil, it's a book about this long (extends her hands out) about how I didn't ask her if I could use the Rhodes name. (She wrote) 'You're not a Rhodes. By marriage only.' Dusty (Cody's father) and I were always close. I absolutely asked his permission to use the Rhodes name. So that was a very souring opening experience for me."
Then, Cody Rhodes chimes in and say that his family "still kind of look at Brandi as if she's not fully in," but they'll have to accept that because she's not going anywhere. In the episode, Teil says that she didn't think it was appropriate for Brandi to use the Rhodes name as she hadn't been wrestling for a long time, and her dad had just passed away.
Why Teil Didn't Like Brandi Rhodes When They First Met
On an episode of Busted Open Radio, Brandi talked a bit about her and Teil's relationship. She said that when she was going to meet Teil for the first time, she asked Cody to tell her more about his sister. He started "burying" his sister (playfully), even making some "stuff up just to pop me." Then, Cody told her that he had called Teil and that their entire conversation was recorded and sent to her voicemail. Brandi told him that Teil wouldn't get mad as he was just joking. Cody then said that if Teil "sees this message, she will hate you forever." It didn't make sense because Brandi hadn't even said a word against her, but still feels that this "voicemail was the curse of the beginning of our relationship."
Things Are Better Now Between Brandi Rhodes And Teil
While they may still not be super close to each other, Teil and Brandi do get along like a family. On a different episode of the podcast, Teil revealed that she and Brandi tried to settle their differences many times, but it didn't just work out, although they are now in a better place. "Me and Brandi are definitely in a better place now. But a lot of the stuff between her and I on the show is a lot of growing pains from some things that we kind of had, issues, drama that we had early on in their marriage. We tried to squash it a bunch of times, but all those little things just kept kind of building."
Rhodes to the Top was reportedly renewed for a second season but got canceled after Cody and Brandi left AEW earlier this year to return to WWE.
