With a Resident Evil 4 remake likely on the way, here's what is currently known about Ada Wong and her secretive missions in the Resident Evil series.

Resident Evil 4 Ada Mission

Resident Evil 4 stands tall as not only one of the best games in the Resident Evil series, but one of the best games action horror titles of all time. Part of that critical acclaim is due to the game's colorful cast of characters, and when it comes to characters in Resident Evil 4, few make such a lasting impression as Ada Wong. Dressed in red and always armed to the teeth, Ada saves protagonist Leon S. Kennedy time and time again, but despite her heroics, it's unclear where her true loyalties lie.

Who is Ada Wong, what is she doing in Spain, and why does she come out of the shadows to help Leon time and time again, only to vanish once more? Unfortunately, Resident Evil 4 doesn't 100 percent give players all the answers.

With a Resident Evil 4 remake likely on the way that may make adjustments to the game's existing story, here is what is currently known about Resident Evil's Ada Wong and her secretive mission.

Ada Wong's Origins And Mission In Resident Evil 4

Ada Wong in Resident Evil 4

Everything about Ada, other than the fact she is of Chinese-American descent and is skilled in the art of espionage, is a mystery, including her place of birth, her age, and even her real name. The name "Ada Wong" is merely a pseudonym she uses to keep her true identity a secret. As far as anyone knows, Ada's only true loyalty lies with a group known as "the organization", a group implied to be a rival company of Resident Evil's big-bad monster creating pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation.  She first appears in Resident Evil 2, where she has several encounters with the then-rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy while working to secure various Umbrella-created virus samples for the organization in coordination with series villain Albert Wesker, a former researcher at Umbrella Corporation.

In Resident Evil 4's story, Ada's mission on the surface is much the same - under the direction of Wesker (now a member of the organization himself), she is tasked with stealing samples of the mysterious Las Plagas parasite from a remote village in Spain. She couldn't have expected, however, to bump into Leon again, now a government agent working directly for the president of the United States. Leon was searching for the president's daughter, Ashley, who had been kidnapped by a cult known as Los Illuminados.

Wesker tasks Ada with assassinating Leon, believing him to be a distraction that could get in the way of Ada's mission. But for reasons known only to her, Ada begins to avoid Leon. Wesker eventually decides to let Leon be a useful tool instead, and allows him to continue operating as a means of wrecking havoc among the Los Illuminados and giving Ada more opportunity to succeed in her original mission. At a secret Los Illuminados facility, Ada helps to distract cult leader Osmund Saddler so Leon can rescue Ashley, only for Ada to be captured and used as bait by Saddler to lure Leon into a trap.

Leon rescues Ada and battles Saddler, afterwards securing the Plagas sample in his possession. Ada, however, has other plans. Holding Leon at gunpoint, she demands the sample, takes it, and jumps off a cliff and into a helicopter waiting to extract her. She then activates timed explosives all around the area and tells Leon he better get a move on, tossing him the keys to a nearby Jet Ski.

Was Ada's mission in Resident Evil 4 to help Wesker secure a sample of Las Plagas? Not exactly. As is revealed in later parts of the franchise, Ada's employer didn't trust Wesker, who they knew to be working with yet another rival company named Tricell. Had the sample fallen into Wesker's hands, he would have used it for his own benefit. Instead, Ada was all along working against Wesker, bringing the sample back to her employers at the organization instead.

A Resident Evil 4 remake may shed more light on Ada's mysterious employer and her personal reasons for saving Leon time and time again. Until then, fans will simply have to wait to learn more about the franchise's most prolific corporate spy.
