As it’s now a tradition in every James Gunn movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 features cameos from a variety of actors, among them Pete Davidson, though his cameo appearance is not easy to catch. The Guardians of the Galaxy returned for one final adventure together in their third movie, appropriately titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In addition to being the final mission of the original Guardians team, the movie explored the tragic backstory of Rocket Raccoon and introduced one of the MCU’s most dangerous and evil villains: the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji).

The Guardians’ final mission together was all about saving Rocket Raccoon and confronting his creator, the High Evolutionary, a scientist obsessed with creating an ideal society, for which he experimented on various species. The High Evolutionary wasn’t an easy enemy to defeat, and Star-Lord and the rest of the team had to confront his guards before they could free all the creatures he had imprisoned and fight him. Among those guards on the High Evolutionary’s side was an alien named Phlektik, who briefly appeared in the third act of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and is played by none other than Pete Davidson.

Where Pete Davidson's Tiny Cameo Appears In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3

The High Evolutionary resided at the mobile research complex Arête Laboratories, established on Counter-Earth, a planet inhabited by Humanimals created by him. When the planet was destroyed under the command of the High Evolutionary, the complex transformed into a large spaceship and drifted into the cosmos. In the final act of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the team freed the hundreds of genetically modified creatures and children imprisoned on Arête and used Knowhere to attack the complex. Peter made it to the cockpit, where the High Evolutionary was supposed to be, and was stopped by three guards: two human and one alien. The alien, Phlektik, was played by Pete Davidson, and he only had one line: “wait!”.

Peter Davidson isn’t the only actor who has previously worked with James Gunn who had a cameo or minor role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Davidson’s fellow The Suicide Squad cast members Nathan Fillion, Sylvester Stallone, Stephen Blackehart, Daniela Melchior, and Jenifer Holland also appear as Master Karja, Stakar Ogord, Steemie Blueliver, Ura, and Kwol, respectively, with Fillion and Melchior’s roles being more than just cameo appearances. James Gunn is known for including various actors in his movies in cameo appearances, especially his frequent collaborators, with many of them having voice cameos or the actors being hidden under a lot of makeup and special effects, as was the case for Pete Davidson in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Pete Davidson's GOTG Vol 3 Cameo Was Almost Bigger

The Guardians of the Galaxy in Vol. 3

Phlektik isn’t seen again after that brief interaction with Star-Lord, and it’s unclear if he made it out of the complex safely, but he almost had a slightly bigger role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In a deleted scene (via People), Phlektik and Star-Lord interacted a bit more, with Peter asking the alien “are you always this irritating?” with Phlektik innocently replying “uh, yes, I think. I think so. Am I, guys?”. Surely, this wouldn’t have been a big expansion of Pete Davidson’s alien character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but it would have been yet another fun exchange between two very different characters, though it might have felt out of place given the intense context of the scene
