Valkyrie was memorably involved in the Battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame, but her Pegasus seems to show up without any sort of explanation. Tessa Thompson reprised her Asgardian in Endgame after the character's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok. Though she didn't appear in Avengers: Infinity War, she had a prominent role in Endgame, revealing the figure's fate following Thanos' Snap. Here's how her winged horse played into her past, and where Valkyrie could have obtained the mystical animal.
Valkyrie, whose real name is Brunnhilde, was a bounty hunter on Sakaar when she first sold Thor to the Grandmaster in Ragnarok. The former member of elite female warriors known as the Valkyries, Brunnhilde teamed up with Thor and the Hulk to thwart Hela's plan to take over Asgard. Though the group defeated Hela, Ragnarök occurred, destroying what was left of the homeworld. Thanos attacked what was left of the Asgardians, but a group of them managed to make it to Earth. They suffered more loss due to the Snap, but the surviving Asgardians built a new home in Norway, which they called New Asgard.
When Thor was re-enlisted to help reverse Thanos' Snap, it was revealed that Valkyrie was the acting leader of New Asgard. Even though she wasn't seen for much of the events presented in the film, she was present when it counted. As the Avengers and their allies showed up to fight the Mad Titan and his army, Valkyrie led what was left of the Asgardian forces onto the battlefield. Not only were there Einherjar guards, but Brunnhilde was wearing her old Valkyrie armor, in addition to riding her winged horse, Aragorn. Unfortunately, there has never been any confirmation into how she obtained the animal, but there are a few plausible explanations.
Valkyrie's Winged Horse Could Have Been In New Asgard
While some might refer to the winged horse as a Pegasus, that classification stems from Greek mythology. Asgard and its inhabitants are closely linked to Norse mythology, so technically, the animals are considered Valkyrie steeds. Aragorn, in particular, had the ability to fly, in addition to super strength and durability. It's unclear if this was the same horse she used as a member of the Valkyries, considering it had been lost when Hela wiped out the group. Even though the horse wasn't seen in Ragnarok's primary timeline, one might have been saved before the decimation of Asgard. Like fellow Asgardians and members of Einherjar guards, Aragorn would have resided in New Asgard for a few years before the Battle of Earth.
Another possible explanation explaining Valkyrie's winged horse in Avengers: Endgame could be linked to Asgardian powers. Seeing as Asgardians are known for their advanced abilities mirroring magic and sorcery, the survivors may have had the power to produce a Valkyrian steed. Whether it was transforming an ordinary horse or finding a way to raise a new flying steed, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Hopefully, Thor: Love and Thunder will fill in some of the blanks since Valkyrie is set to return as the King of New Asgard, searching for her queen. It's likely that viewers will see more of Aragorn as long as Valkyrie continues being featured in the MCU.
