Beatrice's first relationship was a blip in her otherwise perfect public image. In 2005, at 17 years old, she started a relationship with an American named Paolo Liuzzo. Now, normally this would be no big deal, but Liuzzo has had a very checkered past (via Metro).
It came to light in 2006 that Liuzzo had at some point been convicted on an assault and battery charge. This was all due to his involvement in a drunken brawl with a student, who ended up dying in Massachusetts (via Boston.com). After pleading guilty to the lesser charge, he ended up being put on probation and receiving just community service. However, the public naturally had a hard time letting it. Her parents tried to ease the fire by releasing a statement. "As any parent will know, the most important element in a relationship with your child is trust. We all have our own journeys and have to learn our way but Beatrice is a sensible girl, soon to be 18, with many friends including Paolo. We must trust her judgment" (via Independent).
Nevertheless, the relationship didn't last much longer. After their breakup, Liuzzo was also charged with cocaine possession after crashing his card and "[skipping] out on [a] casino bill," per Daily Mail. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has since become the owner of a production company.
