According to Variety, there is an "Outlander" prequel in the works by Starz. The show, which has captured the hearts of many fans, will reportedly add to the universe by telling a new story of a time before Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser met. "Outlander" executive producer and showrunner Matthew B. Roberts will reportedly write and executive produce the prequel series, while Ronald D. Moore, who developed the original series for television, will also be an executive producer on the show.
Currently, the network is staying quiet about their plans for an "Outlander" prequel. However, fans have an idea about what the show could focus on. "Outlander" author Diana Gabaldon recently told fans via Facebook that she's working on a prequel novel about Jamie Fraser's parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. This means that the new show could focus on their life together. Previously, Gabaldon also published the prequel "Virgins" which focused on a young Jamie and Ian Murray in 1740s France. So, either idea could be an option for the new series.
News of the prequel series came just days before the debut of "Outlander" Season 6, which will consist of just eight episodes. However, the show has also been renewed for a seventh season, which will feature 16 episodes. So, it seems that "Outlander" fans have a lot to look forward to.
