Every year at the Royal Rumble, fans look forward to the surprise entrants of stars from the past and present ones who have been inactive. The Women's Royal Rumble especially this year had many surprises, with the likes of Michelle McCool and Nia Jax throwing their hats in the ring. Alongside them was the comeback of Doudrop, except that her WWE main roster name was gone in favor of Piper Niven, the name she found success with in the indies as well as NXT UK.

Before The Royal Rumble, Niven gave an interview with MySanAntonio, where she spoke about the difficulties of playing the Doudrop character. “When I was given Doudrop, it really took me a minute to figure out who she was supposed to be, and I felt I had just started to get into the swing of things with her... Then they were like, ‘Hey, I need you to be a heel.’ I was like, ‘What?’ So, it was kind of difficult to change up that character."

As for where she's at currently with the new regime, Niven said, “It was really nerve-wracking actually, because I have never pitched anything to creative before. I’ve done matches, but nothing ever like real big character things. So, this was really nerve-wracking, because it came from a real-life experience, and because it is something I am passionate about. I just didn’t want it to be rejected when I approached them. They called me in and were like, ‘Hey, do you have some ideas?’ I was like, ‘Well, this has been going on in my real life, and I think it would be cool to work that into a storyline.’ Luckily, they were so receptive and really, really liked it. So, it is very exciting.” (h/t Fightful)

Whatever Piper Niven Does Next Has To Be Better Than The Doudrop Gimmick

In NXT UK, Piper Niven was presented as a great wrestler. On the WWE main roster, she became a comedy act with a horrible name, first stuck in an awful pairing with Eva Marie. Even though she would soon enough get away from her and eventually undergo a heel turn, Niven was often at the back of the pack of the women's roster. Now that she's been repackaged under her old ring name, it gives Piper Niven a chance to prove herself all over again to an audience who is only familiar with her work as Doudrop.
