The Batman is set two years into Bruce Wayne's time as Batman. Gotham City is riddled with crime and Batman is vengeance, striking fear in those who dare to do wrong on the streets of Gotham. He's shed his Bruce Wayne persona entirely; he doesn't care about what happens to Wayne Enterprises or making public appearances. Bruce is simply Batman and he's obsessed with making an impact on his city. When a killer begins targeting the powerful and rich in Gotham — district attorneys, politicians, etc. — Batman discovers there are a lot more mysteries that remain unsolved and hidden, including the truth about Bruce's own parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne. In trying to find out more information on Carmine Falcone, the mob boss, and who the mysterious serial killer is, Batman works with Selina Kyle (aka, Catwoman), who becomes embroiled in the conflict after her friend is kidnapped, to stop the killer before he targets someone else.

The Batman's release was delayed for a while because of the pandemic, but it finally released to theaters on March 4, 2022. The film was made available to stream on HBO Max on April 18. The film was successful enough to garner a sequel, as well as a spinoff series about The Penguin.
