The main event of last nights AEW Dynamite saw the team of Sting and Darby Allin take on Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara. After never being in the ring together before, Sting and Jericho faced off against each other for the second time in a week. Sting and Allin would be victorious, but the talk of the night went to an insane move pulled off by the 64-year-old Sting. With Sammy Guevara laid out on two tables pushed together on the outside of the ring, Darby Allin climbed a ladder inside the ring, ready to dive to the floor in one of his crazy spots. Instead, Sting climbed the ladder too and took the dive himself. Even as commentators called out that Sting was too far away from Guevara, he jumped anyway, hitting Guevara, but also crashing his face into the second table. The icon immediately grabbed his mouth as blood oozed from between his lips. Fans at home watched in shock, fearful that Sting may have suffered a serious injury in an unnecessary spot.

Sting would go on to finish the match, however, and after Dynamite went off the air and the crowd rose to their feet for a standing ovation, Sting took the mic to talk about the moment that had just happened. "I'm gonna have a bunch of stiches in my lip and a tooth that seems halfway knocked out, but it was worth it to do it right here. Thank you to Tony Khan for allowing me to do this just right there."

Should Sting Stop Taking Such Big Bumps?

Sting's dive from the ladder isn't the first risky move he's taken of late. In his limited matches, the WWE Hall of Famer has many times dove from the stage or even the stands onto his opponent. At Forbidden Door, he took two nasty bumps from Sammy Guevara, once landing on the top of his head in a spot that looked to go wrong, before then letting Sammy jump from the ring onto the outside where Sting lay on a table. The second move was also awkward, as Sting was getting up right as Sammy hit, meaning that Guevara landed on Sting's side and shoulder. It was reported that Sting was supposed to get out of the way before the former TNT Champion crashed through the table.

AEW has a history of letting stars take crazy bumps that they shouldn't be doing. Jeff Hardy is still doing high-flying spots despite his age and Dante Martin broke his leg in a table spot that many say should have never been approved to begin with. Sting, who has previously talked about retiring this year, said at the post Forbidden Door media scrum that he's now not sure when he'll be retiring. Maybe he can keep going for a little while yet, but to do so, he needs to be better protected.
