Sami Zayn has been off of WWE television since WrestleMania 36, and it doesn't sound like he's returning in the immediate future.

According to a report from Ringside News, the Intercontinental Champion won't be back on WWE programming "any time soon." As such, the situation with the title will "be addressed."

Zayn revealed on Twitter last month that he underwent oral surgery, but that isn't the only reason for his absence. Another report from Ringside News stated that Zayn "enjoys making (staff’s) lives harder when (their) lives are hard enough.

Apparently, Zayn has the support of some people backstage; ones who are content on helping him become "a bigger star." Last month, Ringside News reported that there were issues with Zayn and "the SmackDown team."

Zayn hasn't sounded off on the matter, and WWE hasn't offered any storyline reasons for his absence. We'll just have to keep an eye on the situation and see how things play out.

Zayn defeated Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 36 to win the Intercontinental Championship, and he's been one of the top heels on the SmackDown Live roster - forming a faction with Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro. Those two superstars have been appearing on SmackDown post-WrestleMania.

Zayn isn't the only premier superstar who has been off of WWE television post-WrestleMania. Roman Reigns - who removed himself from the show - is also taking a hiatus amid health concerns.

Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Edge and Randy Orton have also been off of TV for a month now. A.J. Styles only made his return to programming on this week's edition of Raw.

Let's Hope This Gets Sorted Out

If there are truly backstage disagreements between Zayn and WWE, we can only hope that it'll be sorted out soon. Zayn has been one of the company's most underused superstars despite immense popularity and phenomenal in-ring work. WWE certainly looked keen on giving him a push with the Intercontinental title, however, so we can only hope that any potential tension backstage gets resolved. SmackDown is simply better with Zayn, after all.
