Rockruff can evolve into Lycanroc, which has two different forms in Pokémon Go. It will evolve into Midday or Midnight form depending on the time.
Rockruff has been added to Pokémon GO with its evolutionary form, Lycanroc. Both originate from the sixth generation titles Pokémon Sun and Moon. Alola has been the biggest addition to release for the game since the Pokémon GO Johto Tour. Only a handful of Pokémon that debuted in Alola are available, including the starter Pokémon and a small selection from the first area of Pokémon Sun and Moon. In that game, the region was broken into four different islands. Each one has its own set of exclusive Pokémon, and the first chunk to be added from the game originates from Melemele Island.
The thing that makes Rockruff so interesting is that it has three evolutionary forms. In Pokémon Sun and Moon, Rockruff can transform into Midday Form Lycanroc, Midnight Form Lycanroc, or Dusk Form Lycanroc. Once Rockruff reaches level 25, it will evolve into one of these forms depending on the time of day within the game. On the Nintendo 3DS, trainers were able to change the time within the handheld's settings, allowing them to choose which version of Lycanroc they'll obtain. In the case of Pokémon GO, the method is still the same, but the game only offers two of its three forms.
Rockruff will transform into Midday Form Lycanroc or Midnight Form Lycanroc depending on the time of day the trainer evolves it. Regardless, both forms will need 50 Rockruff candy to evolve. It's recommended to capture at least two different Rockruff to obtain both of these forms. Pokémon GO will have it labeled if a Pokémon cannot evolve if the time of day isn't appropriate. Since this game is connected to the Internet at all times, trainers will just need to wait until the proper time to evolve their Rockruff.
Earning Rockruff Candy in Pokémon GO
Fortunately, getting to 50 Rockruff candy shouldn't be too difficult. As part of the Pokémon GO Alola event, Rockruff is appearing in one-star raid battles. Trainers can participate and defeat Rockruff on their own, with a chance to obtain its Shiny form if they're lucky enough. Since this is a one-star raid battle, it shouldn't be too difficult for trainers of any level to bring it down. It's recommended to use Fighting-, Ground-, Steel-, Water-, and Grass-type moves to complete it quickly.
Once the battle is over, players can use a Pinap Berry to double the candy earned by the end of the battle from three to six. Alternatively, players can set Rockruff as their buddy Pokémon and walk around with them. After a few kilometers, Rockruff will find Pokémon GO candy out in the wild. Trainers will need to collect at least 100 Rockruff candy to obtain both forms of Lycanroc.
