If NFL superstar tight end Rob Gronkowski returns to the WWE, he would like a match with one of the greatest superstars of all-time
Gronkowski signed with the company in March 2020, and he wound up serving as the host for WrestleMania 36 weekend. The two-day event was taped before airing and filmed at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida with no fans in attendance.
But two weeks after WrestleMania, Gronkowski decided to end his NFL retirement and reunite with longtime New England Patriots teammate Tom Brady. The latter signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency, and "Gronk" managed to orchestrate a trade from New England to Tampa Bay. The future Pro Football Hall of Famer later exercised an out clause in his WWE contract, thus ending his tenure with the company.
The 2021 NFL season ended two months ago, but Gronkowski has yet to commit to another season of football. If he ever returns to the squared circle? The four-time Super Bowl champion would like a match with The Rock, be it as a tag team partner or as an opponent.
"It would definitely be a tag team match, no doubt about that," he said during an interview with TMZ Sports (h/t WrestlingNews.co). "I just love the tag team aspect of everything. It’s my first time so I wouldn’t want to be on my own doing a one-on-one match, I would be able to get help. Maybe do a one-on-one match after doing a couple of tag team matches. My tag team partner could help me out with some moves. Who would it be verse? I’m being put on the spot..it would be pretty cool to have The Rock come back, and face The Rock, or have him as my tag team partner. It would be cool to get a People’s Elbow, but it would also be cool to have him on my squad."

After helping the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl 56 championship in the 2020 season, Gronkowski decided to return on a one-yer deal. The soon-to-be 33-year-old had his most productive season since 2017, notching 55 catches for 802 yards and six touchdowns. The Buccaneers were eliminated by the eventual champion Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round.
Brady announced his retirement in February but decided to return to football 40 days later. The football world continues to await Gronkowski's decision.
The WWE Door Should Always Be Open For Gronkowski
Even if Gronkowski decides to return to football in 2022, it shouldn't ruin his chances of landing a second WWE contract down the road. He's one of the most lovable athletes of this era, and Gronkowski can flourish in WWE with his superb microphone skills and hilarious personality. One has to think that WWE woulud happily bring Gronkowski back once he decides to retire from football for good.
