Cody Rhodes has been a free agent for just over two weeks, but fans seemingly won't have to wait much longer for his next stop.

Last month, Cody and Brandi Rhodes parted ways with AEW. Aside from wrestling, "The American Nightmare" was also employed as an Executive Vice President with the company, and Brandi worked as AEW's Chief Brand Officer.

It has been widely reported that Cody will eventually return to the WWE, where his professional wrestling career began 16 years ago. In this week's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Melter reported that WWE creative is "working on stuff for" the 36-year-old Rhodes. Another report suggests that Cody's seemingly inevitable return to the company is just around the corner.

According to a report from Ringside News, Cody Rhodes is listed on the plans for WrestleMania 38. A member of the WWE creative team told Ringside News they are aware of what is "scheduled for Cody for Mania, and that it’s still on the list." The source also told Ringside News "If it’s changed, no one has told us yet or corrected the internal documents."

It should be noted that Rhodes did not have to work under a non-compete clause following the expiration of his AEW contract, so he's free to sign with any company as soon as possible. The second-generation wrestler actually revealed in January that he was working in AEW without a contract.

Cody Would Make WrestleMania 38 That Much Better

We'll have to wait and see if (likely when) Cody makes his WWE return, but if he's on the card for WrestleMania 38? That will make the two-day event far more exciting and thrilling.

WWE has already done a fine job building up a stacked card for "The Show of Shows", but having Cody would add a lot more hype to WrestleMania. WWE needs more upper-card performers these days, and Cody could be used as a main eventer right away. One way or another, Cody's seemingly inevitable arrival will be a game-changer for Vince McMahon and company.
