Highlights

  • AEW WrestleDream will feature Christian Cage vs. Darby Allin in a Two Out Of Three Falls match for the AEW TNT Championship as the likely main event.
  • This will be the first time the TNT Championship is defended in the main event of an AEW pay-per-view.
  • Speculation suggests that Edge might debut during or after Christian's match, adding to the excitement and potential dream matches if Edge signs with AEW.

AEW WrestleDream is right around the corner, and with a stacked lineup featuring the promotion's biggest stars, there was no clear-cut main event being pushed by the company. Since MJF is defending his ROH Tag Team titles against The Righteous, there's no AEW World Championship match, meaning the door was wide open for another match to headline the event. While it hasn't officially been confirmed by AEW, the likely main event for WrestleDream will be Christian Cage Vs. Darby Allin in a Two Out Of Three Falls match for the AEW TNT Championship.

On AEW's Countdown to WrestleDream, Darby Allin stated that he will headline the pay-per-view with Christian Cage. This will be the first time the TNT Championship is defended in the main event of an AEW pay-per-view.

Darby had this to say: "You haven’t seen s--- until you wrestle Darby in Seattle. At WrestleDream, in the main event, you are fighting someone that you’ve never seen before."

Some had speculated that the dream match between Bryan Danielson and Zack Sabre Jr. would headline the event, but Danielson came out on record in an interview on PW Insider and put those rumors to bed, confirming they weren't going to close the show.

Could Tony Khan Have A Major Surprise In Store?

While it's not uncommon for a midcard championship match to headline a pay-per-view (the main event of AEW's last big event, All Out 2023, featured the International title being defended), the choice to have Christian in the main event adds fuel to the rampant rumors that Edge is on his way to AEW, and could be appearing at WrestleDream to close the show.

All wrestling fans know about Edge and Christian's history. Best friends since high school, the two would become one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history. It would make sense for Edge to debut during, or following a Christian Cage main event match.

If Tony Khan did indeed sign Edge, it would be one of the biggest gets in company history, even if he only wrestles a handful of bouts. The dream matches are endless, with Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, & MJF leading the pack for singles matches, while FTR, Lucha Bros and The Young Bucks could serve as amazing tag team opponents should Edge reform his tag team with Christian.
