The September 10 edition of WWE SmackDown was an eventful one. Not only did it feature "The Beast" Brock Lesnar in his first blue brand appearance for a long time, but Finn Balor's resurrected his Demon King alter ego and confronted the seemingly unstoppable Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Needless to say, the fans in attendance got their money's worth ... but if a recent report is accurate, so did WWE.
According to journalist Ariel Helwani, the Madison Square Garden show generated the highest-grossing gate in the 22-year history of SmackDown.
"Last night’s WWE Smackdown at MSG produced the highest grossest Smackdown gate of all time, per sources. Not just in NY. Of any city ever for any SD," Helwani tweeted on Saturday, September 11.

During the show, WWE announced that it will be returning to Madison Square Garden for a Boxing Day show on December 26 -- a wise decision considering the revenue generated this week.
The show kicked off with a confrontation between Lesnar and Roman Reigns and ended with the return of Balor's Demon. But the fun didn't stop there for the fans in attendance. After the show went off the air, John Cena participated in a six-man tag dark match in which he joined forces with Rey and Dominik Mysterio in a winning effort over Roman and The Usos.
The September 10 SmackDown was so tacked that an entire match was cut for time. Toni Storm and Liv Morgan were scheduled to take on New York's own Zelina Vega and Carmella in tag team action, but the match was unfortunately pulled due to time constraints. Zelina Vega reportedly had gear made especially for the occasion to honor her late father who tragically passed away as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley took to Twitter to vent his frustration bout the women's tag match being cut.
