WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has tipped John Cena to break clean off Ric Flair and become a 17-time World Champion with WWE.

It's been over five years since there was a real development in the race for the most world titles. Cena beat AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble to tie Flair’s record as a 16-time champ in 2017. And, though he only wrestles part-time now, the Hollywood star has been vaunted as the man who will go down as the wrestler with the most World Championships.

Speaking about it during his podcast on AdFreeShows, Angle touted Cena as a future 17-time champion while claiming Randy Orton will also catch The Nature Boy.

"The answer is simple. Yes! Yes, he will (break Ric Flair's record)," the Olympic Gold medalist declared (H/T Sportskeeda.com). "I believe John Cena will be the only 17-time world champion. I do believe Randy Orton is going to catch up to him and possibly surpass him. So, you know, I know that records are made to be broken, and I believe John Cena is going to break Ric Flair's record."

So Who's Better?

Cena and Flair competed in very different eras and Flair has done it for a lot longer. In fact, he’s due for a final match later this year at the age of 73. Angle reckons Naitch is the better World Champion as he has had a longer career than Cena but talked up the consistency of both men, who never suffered any significant injuries over the years. Flair's run is particularly impressive as he was able to wrestle three months after surviving a plane crash.

"You know what? I would say, Ric Flair, only because he has been wrestling for like 50 years (laughs). You have to give it to Ric," Angle added.

"His consistency, don't get me wrong, John Cena is the most consistent wrestler I've ever seen. Him and Ric Flair, because they never got injured, and they showed up every week. It was incredible. Their consistency was amazing, both of them, and that's why they are both 16-time world champions. If I had the consistency as they did, I'd probably have 20 world titles!"
