In 2002, John Morrison began his wrestling career in WWE as the co-winner of the third ever Tough Enough. He had a good first run with the company, winning tag team gold in MNM and with The Miz, while also becoming an Intercontinental Champion. After walking away from WWE in 2011, he wrestled all over the world before returning to WWE in 2019 for a two-year stint, where he captured another tag team championship with The Miz. In 2021, the company that made him so popular released him.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani for The MMA Hour, Morrison was asked if he'd ever return to WWE. “I hate that place. But sure, if they called me, I’d go back. [Laughs] Why do [I] hate it? Because it’s your dream. It’s what I’ve watched as a kid, and then you show up and you want to live your dream and do the things that you’ve dreamed of doing, but it’s a bastardized version of what you want to do. That was my experience. It’s not for everybody. I kind of exaggerated the hate thing to make a little joke, but sure, I’d go back. I tried not to burn any bridges. I love the roster there, I love a lot of the people there.
"I love the roster of AEW, Tony I like a lot. Vince, I actually like a lot too. I like all the minds in professional wrestling. The place that I go next, I really want to have a good, honest talk with whoever’s in charge, whether it’s Vince, Tony, the number one in charge of WWE-UFC, the merger, or Nick Khan, or whoever that might be, and find out exactly what they have planned for me, and hopefully they’re honest. If I don’t like that, I’ll probably not go, and if I do, I will. That’s more important than the money for me right now.” (h/t WrestleZone)

John Morrison Has Kept Busy Since Being Released By WWE
Since his 2021 release from WWE, John Morrison hasn't struggled in finding other work. He has appeared in several other promotions such as AAA, GCW, and Progress, and even had a few matches in AEW as Johnny Elite. This year he spent almost three months as the MLW National Openweight Champion. Wrestling hasn't been his only ventures though. He's dabbled in filmmaking as well and just last week won his first ever boxing match. It's safe to say that he's doing just fine without WWE or AEW, but it would still be great to see him back on a big national stage again.
