This past April, WWE legend John Cena returned to the ring at Wrestlemania 39. He challenged the ever-polarizing United States Champion Austin Theory for his title. Cena was, unfortunately, unsuccessful in his endeavor. Most fans predicted he would lose given the fact that he would never be around to defend the title if he'd won it.

While speaking on the Notsam Wrestling Podcast, John Cena shared the advice he gave to WWE United State Champion Austin Theory during their Wrestlemania feud. First, he described what it was like working with Theory. Wrestling News Co. has provided the following transcription:

Austin (Theory) is great and easy to work with. We wrote that together. He was in every step of the process. There comes a point where, you know, sometimes people need creative solitude. So like, I'm gonna go away and write my thing and then come back and run it by you and see if it's okay, and there are some guys who are just like, 'See you out there.'

Cena went on to compare Theory to the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. He explained how Reigns was also once rejected by the WWE fanbase and had to keep reiterating himself until he found a gimmick that clicked. Cena also referenced Reigns' infamous "suffering succotash" promo:

When I talk to somebody like Theory who's got stars in his eyes, and at 25 thinks he's got a long road in front of him, I'm like, 'Man, you really need to start now, failing. Don't just perform, fail, like a lot, and then one day, you'll get it. You need to have like 85 'suffering succotash' moments.
