The Caribbean-inspired island of Saint X is aesthetically and culturally authentic to the area, and the Indigo Bay Resort is also extremely realistic.
WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Saint X!The new psychological thriller series Saint Xtakes place on an island resort that appears to be very real. The Hulu series premiered on April 26 and is based on the novel of the same title written by Alexis Schaitkin. The story follows the mysterious disappearance of a girl named Alison Thomas (West Duchovny) who is vacationing with her family and is discovered to be dead. Her younger sister Claire is determined to figure out the truth of her death, which is clouded with uncertain motivations and conflicting reports. The first three episodes of Saint X are currently available to stream on Hulu.
While there is some speculation that the plot of Saint X and characters are based on a true story and whether the Indigo Bay Resort is an actual vacationing destination. The creators of Saint X don't claim that their story is based on reality, but parallels have been drawn between the fictional plot in Saint X and a real-life situation involving a young girl named Natalee Holloway. Holloway was on vacation in Aruba nearly twenty years ago and never returned. Alison Thomas's story, however, is made up, and so is the location where it takes place.
Saint X & Indigo Bay Resort Are Fictional
The tropical island where Saint X takes place is completely fictional, and so is the Indigo Bay Resort where the Thomas family stays. The fictional island is supposed to be located in the Caribbean, with aesthetic and cultural features similar to the Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica, etc. Novelist Alexis Schaitkin wanted to create a fictional world that captured the essence of a paradisaical, family-friendly environment that would juxtapose the horrific tragedy that happens in Saint X's plot. Without targeting any specific nation, the made-up island of Saint-X was accurate to the other islands in the Caribbean, but was still its own unique place.
Where Was Saint X Filmed?
Saint X was primarily filmed in the Dominican Republic and was made to appear as the fictional island of Saint X. Specifically, some scenes were shot in Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, Juan Dolio, Bani, and Samana. Many of the coastal scenes were shot at Macao Beach in Punta Cana. Juan Dolio is home to a massive production studio called Pinewood Studios where some of the action was also filmed. Saint X has already drawn comparisons to HBO's popular series The White Lotus for its similar theme of tragedy in tropical and luxurious locations.
The present-day New York scenes were filmed in New York, mostly in Brooklyn. The Hulu series will run eight episodes through the end of May, with episode 4 streaming on May 17. The show will continue to offer more information about Clive's history and watch Alison and Edwin's relationship as they get closer. Despite its tragic circumstances, it's still easy to get lost in th tropical environment of the fictional Indigo Bay Resort on the Caribbean-inspired island of Saint X.
