To close IMPACT Wrestling's Against All Odds pay-per-view on Saturday night, No. 1 contender Sami Callihan was fired by on-screen executive Don Callis after Callihan began to attack Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. Not fired in real life, what is this on-screen angle setting up?
To further the company’s storyline into Slammiversary, one has to wonder if IMPACT is playing out one of two scenarios: either Callihan is hired back in spite of Callis' decision or Callihan will show up on AEW programming.
Since the No.1 contender isn't likely welcome on IMPACT programming now, it could make sense that Tony Khan hires him to take on Omega. This would be done to send a message to Omega and Callis that their antics will no longer be tolerated.
Saturday's Against All Odds pay-per-view ended when The Young Bucks helped Omega retain the title against Moose. Callihan took the ring and started hitting The Jackson brothers and Omega with a baseball bat. That's when Callis took the microphone and warned Callihan not to touch his family. When Callihan refused to stop, he was fired.
Callis' fellow IMPACT Wrestling EVP, Scott D'Amore argued with him over the decision and the show went off the air with fans and Callihan himself in disbelief.
More Crossover Action?
Omega recently talked about how much crossover business AEW was doing and said he doesn't see a reason why it couldn't continue and that any promotion that wanted to do business together, potentially could. If Callihan joins the AEW roster, it would certainly be an interesting idea for a storyline.
It doesn't need to be a long contract either. It could be one of those situations were, in the storyline, Khan gives Callihan an AEW deal until he wins the title back and wins it and then loses it again.
Fans will have to tune into Dynamite and IMPACT Wrestling this week to see where the two companies take this... and, that's kind of the point.
