The bridge crew of Star Trek Deep Space Nine was a diverse bunch, but how old were they at the start and end of the show?

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was the fourth series in the franchise and presented the most diverse bridge crew up to that point, but how old was each crew member at the beginning and end of their seven-year stint onboard? Deep Space Nine turned Trek's classic space exploration theme on its ear when it took place on a mostly stationary station and the action had to come from within as well as without. This allowed the show to offer a new side of the universe that fans hadn't seen before, and the series pushed the boundaries of what was possible in science fiction television.

The station formerly known as Terok Nor was taken over by the Federation and Bajorans in 2369 after the Cardassians withdrew, and it was immediately populated with crew and civilians that represented all walks of life in the Federation and beyond. The addition of the wormhole and Prophets gave the story a spiritual edge, while its gripping Dominion War and Section 31 storylines showed a shadier side to the utopian sci-fi of Star Trek. The characters were always the most important part of any Trek series, but DS9's bridge crew grew and changed the most in their seven seasons together.

The Ages Of Each Crew Member In 2369

Jean Luc Picard And Benjamin Sisko On Star Trek Deep Space Nine

Not only was the crew of Deep Space Nine diverse in their backgrounds, but they represented a wide range of ages as well. Commander Benjamin Sisko started his time in charge at the relatively young age of 37, and his refusal to reconcile with Captain Picard showed his youth and immaturity. Meanwhile, his second in command Major Kira Nerys was a seasoned veteran of the Bajoran resistance despite only being 26 in 2369. Science Officer Jadzia Dax's age was a bit more complicated, as her host body Jadzia was only 28, while the Trill symbiote Dax was over 350 years old.

Constable Odo's age was never divulged, though episode 2 of season 3, "The Search Part II" seemed to suggest he was hundreds of years old. Chief Engineer Miles O'Brien was 41 when he transferred from the Enterprise into his new and improved role. Conversely, the young Dr. Julian Bashir was fresh out of medical school and only 28 when he took over as the station's Head of Medical. After The Next Generation, Worf joined DS9's crew as Chief Tactical Officer during season 4 at the age of 32 and played a crucial role in Federation/Klingon relations during the bloody Dominion War.

Seven years aboard Deep Space Nine saw many of the characters grow, and their ages reflected that change as well. Commander Sisko had made captain and left DS9 at the age of 43, while Major Kira became the station's new commander at the shockingly young age of 33. Jadzia Dax, unfortunately, died at 34 but the Dax symbiote was transferred to Ezri and was 358 by the end of the series. Chief O'Brien's tenure onboard ended when he was 48, while his friend Dr. Bashir was the age of 35. Worf was 35 in 2375, and he continued to join his TNG crewmates on adventures in the movies.
