In his NXT days, Gunther, formerly known as WALTER stood as the imposing leader of Imperium. However, a remarkable transformation took place when he moved to the main roster. Comparing images from his NXT stint, it's evident that Gunther underwent a significant weight loss. His previous heavyweight stature added to the intimidation factor, portraying him as a hard-hitting monster in the ring.
Gunther disclosed on Ryan Satin's Out of Character podcast that he shed a lot of pounds during this transition, even though he cherished his former heavier look, inspired by wrestling giants. He said,
“I lost about 60 or 65 pounds. I always loved the look of the big Japanese heavyweights like Stan Hansen, Terry Gordy, Vader, Scott Norton, like those chunky foreign heavyweights. I always loved the look and I always thought that look really suited my style. I kind of knew moving over that I was going to change some stuff, even though I didn't know exactly what it was. But I always thought like I have to do my part. I have to show that I'm adapting, and I have to show that I put the work in for change. I think that was the most obvious choice [...] I will be more appealing and stand out more than looking like I looked the way before...I think if you're in the top league on national television every week, and you want to represent the top tier athletes, you have to be in shape to do so."

The new and improved Gunther presents a lean, muscular physique, still delivering impactful blows in the ring. In a conversation with Chris Van Vliet, he revealed that the decision to undergo weight loss wasn't fueled by dissatisfaction with his previous look. Instead, Gunther aimed to present a distinct image for the main roster audience. He said,
"When I was my old me, I didn't feel like someone that was too heavy. I didn't feel like an overweight person, because it was always very comfortable. Looking back now and seeing the distance, it's like 'Oh my gosh. When I signed on for the main roster...let's bring the best version of yourself you can. You're going to be in front of millions of people. I think that's necessary now. I'm glad I did it. The bigger guy has his place in wrestling, but I felt it was time to take a step and progress.”
Speaking to Metro, he attributed his weight-loss success to a combination of proper nutrition and the support of his Imperium comrades, Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci, who helped keep him on track. He said,
“Everybody knows how I looked before, so everybody knows I really liked to eat before that! I had to make a cut to that. To limit food intake is a little bit tricky. I love to cook, and I like food, but at the end of the day, I’ve got to give credit to [Ludwig] Kaiser and [Giovanni Vinci], because they’ve been in incredible shape already. I just jumped on board with them and they kicked my butt to pull through even when it’s difficult [he smiled]. Like I said, it always comes back to the support system and that’s from many areas in your life.”
