Forget Roman Reigns. 2023 is quickly becoming the year of Dominik Mysterio. Aside from becoming a heel so hot in WWE that he can't even hold a mic without fans attempting to boo him out of the building, now the second-generation star has singles gold for the first time in his career. Mysterio beat Wes Lee for the North American Title on NXT this week, preventing Lee from making history.
Busy Week For Dirty Dom
Had Lee held the championship for just five more days, he'd have been North American Champion for longer than anyone else in NXT history. Despite stopping what would have been a special slice of NXT history, Mysterio made a little of his own. Arguably something even more impressive than what Lee would have done had he beaten Dirty Dom and remained champion. The new North American Title holder main evented Raw, SmackDown, and NXT all in the same week.

Mysterio's history-making week began on Raw where he lost to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn alongside Damian Priest as The Judgment Day failed to become Undisputed Tag Team Champions. Mysterio made up for that disappointment the following night by becoming North American Champion. Three nights later on SmackDown, NXT boss Shawn Michaels ordered Mysterio to defend his newly-won title in the closing match of the show against Butch, a match Mysterio won.
Dominik Makes History
Like him or not, and I'm guessing it's not for a lot of you, that is one hell of a five-day stretch for Mysterio. One that appears to be a first in WWE history, and probably something that won't soon be replicated. That said, there has been a lot of crossover between NXT and the main roster lately. If someone else were to main event Raw, SmackDown, and NXT in the same week, Mysterio might still be able to hold something over their heads, though. That titles were on the line in all three of his matches.
One hell of a week for Mysterio, and right now, his immediate future remains uncertain. Perhaps we will see the former inmate continue his streak and main event Raw this coming Monday. We do know he will be defending his North American Title against Mustafa Ali at Great American Bash next weekend. Dirty Dom doesn't currently have SummerSlam plans, neither official nor a mention in the nine matches rumored to be locked in for the show.
