Carmella made her return to WWE on Monday Night Raw but she didn't come alone. She brought with her a familiar gimmick that she hasn't really used since her NXT days and early main roster run. Once again calling herself the Princess of Staten Island, she was dressed in her leopard print wrestling gear and had a bit of a New Jersey accent.
Gone appears to be the glamorous Princess gimmick and in its place is a mix of her old Jersey Shore-type character with a little bit of Mella is Money thrown in. She cut a backstage promo on Raw and noted, "I'm Carmella. I am the moon-walking, trash-talking, Princess of Staten Island, and I am back baby!" She added, "And I am about to be back on top where I belong because next week, I'm going to win that Fatal Four Way match and earn my spot in the Elimination Chamber. BECAUSE... Mella is Money!" She was then cut off by Asuka who showed up dressed in street clothes and no face paint but had goo creepily dripping from her mouth.
The match Carmella was talking about was announced just moments earlier as Adam Pearce said that next week, a Fatal Four-Way between Canice LeRae, Michin, Carmella and Piper Niven would take place to pick another qualifier for the Women's Elimination Chamber match for the Raw Women's Championship currently held by Bianca Belair.

This Change Suits Carmella
Carmella should be given credit for working any gimmick she's given and making the most of it. That said, the Princess of Staten Island gimmick is a natural fit for her personality and it's something she pulls off with ease. It will be interesting to see if gets a push with this, or if her cocky attitude gets in the way. And, is she in line for a feud with Asuka? Asuka's showing up during the promo certainly suggests as much.
