It's been eight months since WWE unexpectedly released former Universal Champion Bray Wyatt (real name Windham Rotunda) from his contract.

Fast forward to early April, and Wyatt remains a free agent. His WWE 90-day non-compete clause expired in late October, so he's been free to sign with another promotion for a while now. Instead of returning to wrestling, Wyatt has found himself busy with non-wrestling projects — including a movie with friend Jason Baker.

The 34-year-old Wyatt is in Dallas, Texas for the WrestleCon 2022 event (March 31 to Apr. 2). On Thursday, he took some time to answer fan questions on Instagram. There, Wyatt stated "will always love wrestling", adding that "Timing is everything." You can see Wyatt's full response below (h/t WrestlingNews.co).

Naturally, many fans assumed that Wyatt would land with AEW following the expiration of his non-compete clause. Within weeks of his release, AEW brought in marquee wrestlers such as CM Punk, Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan in WWE) and Adam Cole. AEW President and CEO Tony Khan stated back in October that he would "be interested" in talking to Wyatt.

WWE was widely criticized for their booking of Wyatt during his final year and a bit with the company. This included his loss to Goldberg at Super ShowDown 2020 (for the Universal Championship) and his defeats at the hands of Randy Orton at TLC 2020 and WrestleMania 37.

Wyatt's Final WWE Appearances

After a three-month hiatus, Wyatt returned to WWE at Fastlane 2021 to resume his feud with Orton. This led to a match between the two at WrestleMania 37, which The Viper won after Alexa Bliss betrayed Wyatt. On the post-WrestleMania edition of Raw, Wyatt announced that he was seeking a fresh start in a "Firefly Fun House" segment. There was no way of predicting at the time that this would be his final appearance in WWE.
