There was a nearly inexplicable moment on Raw this past Monday when Shawn Michaels ate an RKO and a punt but was up two seconds later, barely registering that he'd taken two of the most devastating finishers in wrestling. Why?

On the go-home show to SummerSlam, the big angle to close Raw on Monday was that Shawn Michaels was to confront Randy Orton about his behavior towards legends like Ric Flair and others he's taken out with his punts in recent weeks. Michaels addressed Orton with a promo in the ring and said whether it was Sweet Chin Music or a Claymore Kick, Orton was going to get taken out on Sunday.

That led to Orton attacking Michaels with an RKO and a punt -- something he's done on multiple occasions to other stars. The only difference this time was that Michaels didn't lay there as so many have done before. Within seconds, he was on all fours crawling towards the corner. It didn't knock Michaels out. It didn't make him wonder where he was. It didn't do much more than provide a bit of moment where Michaels seemed stunned.

You can see the video below:

There is all sorts of talk about why Michaels would no-sell one of the greats of the business in Randy Orton. There are few people who could get Orton over like a Michaels could and it appeared like he simply chose not to.

What's The Theory Making The Rounds

On Busted Open Radio, the hosts couldn't wrap their heads around why one of the best workers didn't sell when he's typically so good at it. The first theory was that Michaels mention of Sweet Chin Music is setting up a future appearance. The other is perhaps there's some animosity behind the scenes between those two.

Not long ago, Orton took shots on social media at NXT talents who leg slap too much. Michaels is obviously connected to NXT and cares a great deal for the stars he trains and works with there. Because Orton is untouchable to NXT performers, perhaps Michaels felt the need to stand up for his "kids" and take matters into his own hands. After all, Michaels too, is untouchable.

It seems crazy to think that Michaels would do such a thing as a professional but Bully Ray, Dave Lagreca and a ton of fans on social media were left asking, 'What else could it have been?'
