Considering Roman Reigns is still the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion and that there were serious rumors the company tried to secure Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson for a match with Reigns at this year's WrestleMania, it would make sense that decision-makers might be holding out hope that The Rock will be able to wrestle at next year's Showcase of the Immortals and that's why Reigns is still the champion. But, according to a recent report, The Rock is far but confirmed for next year's big event.

The Rock has left the door open to a possible match and seems to want it, but his schedule is hectic and the situation needs to be right. Could that be next year? As per a report by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Rock hasn't committed to working WrestleMania next year either. Cultaholic quotes Meltzer who noted, "Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, when he turned down this year due to schedule, did leave a crack in the door open about possibly doing Philadelphia at WrestleMania 40 next year, but that was far from a commitment and certainly nothing anyone should count on happening."

The reality is, Triple H -- or whoever is running creative at the time WrestleMania 40 rolls around -- shouldn't hold their breath that this match will ever take place. The Rock's schedule is only getting busier and Reigns' appearances are getting more limited as he works less than full-time and is dabbling in Hollywood himself. More likely would be a rematch between Reigns and Cody Rhodes, with the build-up to that rematch having been a year in the making.

Will The Rock Ever Wrestle Reigns?

One has to wonder if there will come a point where it won't be worth the cost or trouble of having The Rock come back to wrestle Roman. The Bloodline storyline is easily the most dramatic story WWE is telling, but everything has a shelf life. If the two sides can't find a way to get this match to happen in the next year, it might not make sense to continue trying.
