AEW has been working on its debut video game Fight Forever for more than two years. Pointers that the game is nearing its arrival have been surfacing in the form of preorder listings and cover art, but no firm release date has been revealed. That might well be down to AEW not getting the desired rating for the game.
An ESRB Rating Issue
According to a new report from WrestleZone, AEW and Fight Forever's publisher THQ Nordic are gunning for a T for Teen rating for the game. However, sources close to the project told the site that isn't the rating the game received following submission to ESRB. While not clarified, Fight Forever was presumably slapped with an M for Mature rating, something that will limit the number of people who can buy and play it.
One of the sources cites the blood and violence in the game as the reason it wasn't able to secure a Teen rating. However, it has also been reported Fight Forever has since been resubmitted to ESRB and everyone involved is confident the game will now get the desired rating. That presumably means the violence has been toned down, and if it does get a rating soon, a release date reveal will likely be imminent.
When Might A Release Date Be Revealed?
With Revolution on the horizon, the PPV might well be the perfect place to officially reveal when Fight Forever will launch. It's possible Revolution weekend was the target for the game's release at one point. If that was the plan once upon a time, confirmation WWE 2K23 will be arriving sooner than expected may well have changed that.
2K confirmed this week that John Cena will be WWE 2K23's cover star and the game will launch on March 17, 2023, or March 14 if you pick up the Deluxe or Icon editions. Fight Forever will have to compete with WWE 2K23 whenever it launches at this point, but AEW will want to release the game as far away from its rival's game as possible. Perhaps that means waiting until Double Or Nothing in May, or maybe even All Out at the start of September.
