Adam Cole is no longer affiliated with WWE, but he's still in touch with two of the mentors he left behind.

During a recent chat with WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle on The Kurt Angle Show, Cole addressed the status of his relationship with Triple H and Shawn Michaels, two men who played a pivotal role in his NXT tenure.

I still, to this day, keep in conversation, in touch with both of them,” Cole said. “All of it is just, ‘Hey, how are you? Thinking of you, wishing you the best.’ That type of thing.”

Cole was a member of the NXT roster for five years and became one of the brand's most successful performers of all time. He was the first-ever NXT North American Champion and later held the NXT Championship for 403 days. During his chat with Kurt Angle, Cole confessed that he rarely spoke with Tripe H and HBK about moving to the main roster because the three of them were too focussed on NXT.

There wasn’t a huge discussion from either of them about going to Raw or SmackDown,” Cole said. “Not as in it was an uncomfortable thing to talk about, but I guess the way I’ll put it is there really was a core group of guys in NXT that was so laser-focused on that one thing, making NXT special. I think they knew and they, themselves weren’t even thinking about it as well," he said. “I think, also, especially with NXT trying to be this new show on Wednesdays, they probably would’ve been nervous or scared of the idea of like, ‘Oh my god, they just took four of our top NXT stars, now what’re we going to do?’”

Adam Cole debuted for All Elite Wrestling at the promotion's historic All Out pay-per-view on Sunday, September 5th in Chicago, Illinois. Cole's fellow former WWE Superstars Ruby Soho (Ruby Riott) and Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan) debuted on the same show, making it a very special evening for the fledgling professional wrestling company. Sadly, Cole's AEW career was recently put on hold when he reportedly sustained a concussion during the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match at AEW's Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 26.
