Despite all the notorious characters they portray on screen, and all the gravity-defying stunts they perform, pro wrestlers are also human beings and have the same needs as any normal person.
Human companionship is one of those common needs, and wrestlers also would love to indulge themselves in loving relationships. However, romantic relationships are very tough to maintain, and we have seen wrestlers undergo heartbreaking break-ups in the past.

While some wrestlers managed to move on and carry on with their lives, some couldn't handle the damage, and the effects reflected in their careers. With that said, let's take a look at nine wrestlers whose careers were derailed due to breakups.
9 Debra Marshall
Debra Marshall started dating WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin in 1998 and got married in September 2000. WWE even used their relationship in a storyline, and the fans thought things were going smoothly between the couple.
But their relationship ended after Debra called the cops on Austin over domestic abuse allegations in 2002. Austin got charged with misdemeanor assault and received a year's probation, a $1,000 fine, and an order to carry out eighty hours of community service.
The couple got their divorce in 2003, and while WWE welcomed Stone Cold Steve Austin back, the company didn't do the same for Debra and dropped all references of her altogether.
8 Alberto Del Rio
Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio started dating current AEW wrestler Saraya, and they didn't make any efforts to hide it from the fans.
They even got engaged in October 2016, but their relationship didn't last long as Saraya broke off their engagement and accused Del Rio of physical and mental abuse. Del Rio was already a controversial figure in pro wrestling, and the allegation from Saraya resulted in WWE shutting down all options to facilitate a Del Rio return.
The former WWE Champion tried on multiple occasions to convince WWE and even announced publicly that he's in talks with the company, but WWE officials denied his claims, and it seems he'll never make it back to the company.
7 Enzo Amore
Despite his natural mic skills and popularity with the fans, Enzo Amore wasn't a likable person backstage during his time in WWE. He got into unwanted altercations with his co-workers and once got kicked out of the tour bus by Roman Reigns.
He was in a relationship with former SmackDown Women's Champion Liv Morgan, but the latter broke off their relationship and claimed that he was not faithful. Since Morgan was a very liked person among the WWE personnel, Amore received a lot of heat for the breakup.

Coupled with real-life sexual assault allegations, WWE released him from his contract, and he's now retired from in-ring competition.
6 Chris Sabin
Former Impact World Champion Chris Sabin started a relationship with fellow wrestler Velvet Sky back in 2013, and the company also used their relationship to book them together in a storyline.
Nonetheless, they didn't last long as a couple as they broke up after Sabin found out Velvet Sky was having an affair with Bully Ray.
Apart from breaking off the relationship, Chris Sabin also ended up leaving the company in 2014. He was in the middle of a great run with Impact Wrestling and recently had a run with the world title, but Sabin still chose to leave the company.
5 John Morrison
John Morrison made his WWE debut as part of the MNM tag team alongside Joey Mercury, with Melina as their valet. Their on-screen partnership led to them starting a real-life relationship, but they weren't a usual couple as they were in an on-and-off kind of relationship and used to break up every other week and then get back together.
It was at this time when Melina started seeing former World Heavyweight Champion Batista behind Morrison's back. Morrison reportedly knew about this, and the drama between him and Melina caused lots of problems for them backstage, which resulted in WWE releasing them one after the other.
4 Kenny Dykstra
Former WWE superstar and member of The Spirit Squad faction Kenny Dykstra is next on the list. He was in a relationship with former Women's Champion Mickie James during their time together in the company.
But their relationship took an unexpected turn after he reportedly caught James having an affair with John Cena. Dykstra was in the middle of a singles run in the company, and the controversy led to WWE suspending his push and eventually releasing him from his contract in 2008.

However, wrestling fans still speculate if Cena had used his backstage influence to derail Dykstra's career and get him fired from the company.
3 Matt Hardy
Matt Hardy's failed relationship with WWE Hall of Famer Lita is a well-known story to every wrestling fan. The two hooked up while they were working together as Team Xtreme alongside Matt's brother Jeff Hardy in WWE.
They were together for six years before Hardy found out that Lita was cheating on him with his close friend and fellow WWE superstar Edge. Hardy didn't take it too lightly and publicly talked about the betrayal resulting in him getting released from his WWE contract.
2 Chyna
The Ninth Wonder of the World, Chyna, was a vital part of the success of D-Generation X during the faction's early days in WWE. Her association with the group led to her starting a relationship with Triple H, and the two were reportedly having a good time together.
Their relationship took a major turn after Triple H started seeing Stephanie McMahon. Chyna also reportedly found a love letter from Stephanie to Triple H and the former being the boss' daughter made things worse for Chyna.
She eventually left the company after Triple H and Stephanie McMahon's relationship became public, and she never returned to the company until her passing in 2016.
1 Big Cass
Enzo Amore's tag team partner Big Cass is also known for going through a rough breakup. He was in a relationship with former SmackDown Women's Champion Carmella during their time together in the company, and the couple even bought a house together, which WWE even showed on an episode of Total Divas.
But their relationship didn't last long, as they broke up in 2017. However, Big Cass tried to reconcile with Carmella and tried to talk to her backstage. He reportedly grabbed her by the arm when she tried to walk away, and The Usos and Erick Rowan had to step in before things could escalate.
WWE released Big Cass after this incident, and he didn't get a chance to return to the company to this date.
