Turk and Carla seem to have the perfect relationship on Scrubs... but would she have been better off with someone else?
Of all the couples on Scrubs, Turk and Carla seem to be the most healthy. These two really do love each other, and are together almost from the very start (almost!). They may have their heated moments, but they are rock-solid - unlike JD and Elliot, who are always coming to Carla and Turk for advice.
So while it may be hard to imagine Carla with anyone else, what if she hadn't ended up with Turk? There were times that she wasn't sure (especially at the start of their relationship), and Dr Cox made it clear that he was interested for a while, so should she have ended up with someone else... or was Turk truly the perfect choice?
10 Not Perfect: She Dominates Him
Turk is kind and fun... but Carla often dominates him in the relationship. Their dynamic is a classic one of the stricter, mommy-style woman and the man-child that relies on her, and that is far from an ideally balanced relationship. If Carla had been with someone else, she could have found more of an equal partner, rather than a responsibility - and someone who was able to stand up to her from time to time. In this, at least, Dr Cox would have been a much better partner for her.
9 Perfect: He Learned Spanish For Her
Perhaps true perfection would have been Carla being with someone who already spoke Spanish, but this was an incredible gesture on Turk's part, and something that many people wouldn't do. He was willing to put in the time and effort to learn an entirely new language (and that's no small amount of either), just to be able to better communicate with her and her family, and show her respect. That's an ideal partner, right there.
8 Not Perfect: He's Too Childish
This is linked to the way that Carla dominates him, but is more than that. Turk and JD are constantly playing pranks and making childish decisions, and it's incredibly annoying for someone like Carla, who is looking for a responsible partner to build a life with.
She shouldn't have to push for a minivan, rather than scooters, when they are going to start a family. Instead, she should be with someone who has grown up enough to realize that scooters was never a really valid option in the first place.
7 Perfect: Obvious Chemistry
Chemistry isn't everything in a relationship, but from the start, it's obvious that these two have it in spades! Turk is constantly complimenting Carla, telling her how sexy and beautiful she is, showing affection, and generally making sure she knows exactly how he feels. This is important - especially for someone like Carla who thrives on physical affection and likes being reassured about her looks, which makes Turk pretty perfect for her.
6 Not Perfect: Turk Wants To Come First
After Turk and Carla have kids, Turk reveals that he thinks he should still come first - even above their children! Given the intensity of his relationship with JD, and the fact that Carla's role as a mother will always come first, this is a ridiculous thing for Turk to try and demand. Once again, he simply isn't mature enough to be a perfect partner - and co-parent - for her, and Carla should really have been with someone who would understand (and be happy to know) that she would always put motherhood ahead of romance.
5 Perfect: Turk Is Committed
Carla makes it clear from the start that she is not interested in quick flings, casual relationships, or one night stands. She wants to be with someone who wants a real, committed relationship - and Turk definitely proves that. He shows her time and time again that he is in it for the long-haul, and that is exactly the kind of relationship that Carla wants.
4 Not Perfect: Carla Manipulates Him
While Carla may actually like feeling that she is able to manipulate her husband, she would probably be better off with someone that wasn't quite so easy for her to control - or who simply wouldn't accept her mind games.
From her initial refusals to have sex with him as a test of his seriousness about her to her refusing his first proposals to make him do it the way she wants, sometimes it seems that Turk doesn't exactly bring out her best.
3 Perfect: Always Have Fun
The occasional manipulation aside, Turk and Carla always have fun together - in fact, they have so much fun that when they are on a double date with JD and Elliot, they make their friends realize that they should break up... because the comparison isn't a good one! Carla can be a bit intense and serious, and while Turk's silly side can be a bit much sometimes, other times it balances Carla out, and helps her to let loose and have fun.
2 Not Perfect: Carla's Family Hates Turk
Carla's family matters to her, and while Turk eventually manages to win them over(ish), Carla's family hates him at the start - and that's a big deal. Had Carla been with someone else, she may have been able to save all kinds of stress and trouble with her family. And sure, it's important to be with someone because you love them, not because they fit in, but if Turk was truly perfect, it shouldn't have been a concern to begin with.
1 Perfect: She Comes Before JD
JD and Turk have a truly intense friendship, and often joke that they are 'more married' or 'more serious' than Turk and Carla or JD and Elliot. That said, it becomes clear that Carla is ok with this because she knows that when push comes to shove, Turk will put her first. His friendship may be almost as important, but Carla is the only person in the world that he would consider more important to him than JD, and that is saying a lot.
