Marijuana may not be on the WWE's list of banned substances, but wrestlers get fined $2,500 if it gets detected in their system during a drug test. Nevertheless, that has not dissuaded wrestlers from using the herb, and a former wrestler has said that half of the locker room smokes weed.

Most wrestlers who have used ganja have done so to take advantage of their benefits regarding pain management, as joint and muscle pain are par for the course for those who make a living in the ring. Likewise, it is safe to say that many wrestlers enjoy consuming marijuana recreationally as well.

10 Bret Hart

Bret Hart's autobiography Hitman: My Cartoon Life In The World Of Wrestling provided behind-the-scenes insight into some of the greatest moments in his career. Furthermore, the book also showcased a wilder side of Hart's character that was unknown, including his affinity for smoking weed.

While he may have been a no-nonsense straight-laced competitor in the ring, his book proved that he was not someone who followed all of the rules outside of it, where The Hitman often turned into Bret "Take a Hit, Man" Hart.

9 MVP

MVP in ring smirking

In a 2009 interview with The Opie and Anthony Show, MVP, who has previously found himself in hot water for making jokes about WWE's Wellness Policy, admitted to smoking marijuana frequently throughout his wrestling career. However, he did say that the company's strict policy forced him to smoke less, but he never stopped completely.

MVP is just recently beginning to live up to his potential in his second stint with the company, and it is fair to wonder whether his love of marijuana played a role in his mid-card status throughout the majority of his career.

8 Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy in ring

Jeff Hardy's inclusion on this list should come as no surprise, as he has had his fair share of issues with drugs and alcohol use since making his debut with the company in the late '90s. Despite all of his struggles, his in-ring ability is undeniable, and he always seems to come back even better than he was before leaving the company.

A few of his suspensions resulting from drug use completely halted his skyward trajectory, which has damaged his legacy as a result. Nevertheless, he remains an advocate for marijuana as a form of pain management.

7 Hulk Hogan

hulk hogan

Hulk Hogan is the only wrestler on the list whose namesake inspired a strain of marijuana. Considering his affinity for smoking weed, he must be honored by this fact.

According to The Ultimate Warrior, Hogan would smoke weed every day when he was the WWE's biggest headliner in the '80s. It was during this time that he also dabbled in other drugs, such as cocaine and steroids. It turns out that Hogan had huge substance abuse issues that no one would have guessed considering his superhero-like persona.

6 R-Truth

R-Truth in ring

R-Truth admitted that he used to sell drugs to provide income while attempting to make a living in the music industry, and he wound up serving 13 months in prison as a result. Due to his checkered past, many believe he started smoking weed long before his wrestling career began. Nevertheless, he only had one failed drug test in his career when he had synthetic marijuana in his system during a drug test in 2011.

Considering his place upon the mantle of the funniest wrestlers of all time, a smoke session with R-Truth would surely provide a lot of entertainment for anyone involved.

5 Jack Swagger

Jack Swagger We The People

"The All American American" Jack Swagger did not live up to his righteous persona after he was arrested for DUI and possession of marijuana following a SmackDown taping in 2013. The timing could not have been worse for Swagger as he was amid one of the biggest pushes of his career.

He still went on to be a featured act at WrestleMania 29 (only because he won the Elimination Chamber match to contend for Alberto Del Rio's World Heavyweight Championship before his arrest), but his main event push was halted following his loss on the grand stage. While he may not be the best competitor in the ring, he at least knows how to have a good time outside of it.

4 Rob Van Dam

Rob Van Damm in ring

While Hogan may have his own weed strain, Rob Van Dam, who will not be outdone by The Hulkster, has his own weed company. Unsurprisingly, RVD is considered the biggest stoner in wrestling history, and he remained a huge advocate for marijuana throughout his career.

One incident where RVD's love of smoking weed came back to bite him occurred when he and Sabu got arrested for possession of weed and various other drugs in 2006. The timing of his arrest could not have been worse, as he held both the WWE Championship and ECW Championship. He would go on to lose both titles in the following days before serving a 30-day suspension.

3 Randy Orton

"The Viper" Randy Orton remains one of the biggest stars who got suspended for violating WWE's Wellness Program, a feat that he managed to do twice in his career. His incredible in-ring skillset and superstar status have allowed him to have a standout career despite his affinity for smoking weed.

There are not many wrestlers with a longer leash than Orton, and he has been open about smoking weed as a result. He may not have his strain of weed like Hogan or run his own company like Van Dam, but Orton is the only wrestler to have pre-gamed one of the biggest matches of his career with DO Double G.

2 Brian Kendrick

The Brian Kendrick walking to ring

Brian Kendrick looked as though he was on the cusp of achieving greatness during the height of his WWE career in 2008 before quickly fading into the background. Many believe that a major factor in Kendrick becoming buried (and eventually released) was his love for smoking weed.

Kendrick reportedly racked up over $1,000 in fines throughout his career and failed 12 drug tests from 2006 to 2009. Nevertheless, Kendrick seems to have mended his relationship with management, and he is currently working as a producer for NXT.

1 Sean Waltman

X-Pac in ring

Sean Waltman was a big advocate for weed throughout his career, and he believed that marijuana would have drastically cut down on the use of more dangerous drugs. The former member of D-Generation X was a known pothead throughout his career, and that was a title he had no issue wearing on his sleeve.

Did he have a strain of weed named after him? No. Did he open his own CBD company following his career? Nope. Did he smoke weed with Snoop Dogg before a big match? Probably not. He did, however, smoke weed with Ben Stiller before an episode of Monday Night Raw in 1999.
