However, along the way, there have been some weird moments as well which didn't quite manage to make him look like an elite superstar, as most people would expect from him. This can be down to poor creative decisions, or a segment just not working, and that is something that he has suffered at times over the years.
10 Losing Gold To R-Truth
R-Truth is a talented professional wrestler who has had a Hall Of Fame-worthy career, however by the time he competed against Shinsuke Nakamura for the United States Championship he had become a comedic character in WWE. Because of that, fans expected the King of Strong Style to pick up a routine victory.
However, that didn't end up being the case as Nakamura dropped his title to R-Truth, which was a decision that fans didn't understand. It was a weird booking choice on behalf of WWE and something that didn't help make Nakamura look like a star.
9 Low Blow Obsession
Shinsuke Nakamura's feud against AJ Styles is something that fans were eager to see, but it ended up being a disappointing situation. The main reason for that is that WWE decided to book the entire angle around Nakamura hitting low blows to his rival as a way of getting one over on him.

It wasn't the right call as fans just wanted to see the two of them wrestle in a high-quality match, but each time they got involved in a major match for the WWE Championship it featured low blows, which took away from it.
8 He Doesn't Speak English
Of course, English is not the first language for Shinsuke Nakamura, but everybody is aware that he can speak well. That has been clear throughout all of his promos during his career. However, at one stage in his career, he went through a phase of refusing to answer Renee Young's questions outside of claiming he couldn't speak English.
It was done to gain heel heat for Nakamura at that time, but it wasn't something that made Young look good. She was often made to look poor in these segments, while it didn't develop Nakamura's character, which created a weird moment instead.
7 Relinquishing His Crown
The King of the Ring tournament doesn't mean as much nowadays as it did in the past, and that has been clear even with those who win it. However, WWE created a storyline between Shinsuke Nakamura and Baron Corbin that was all about the crown that Corbin had won.
Nakamura was able to take it from him after winning a match where it was on the line. However, Nakamura himself ended up relinquishing it which was a very strange segment as it made the entire storyline completely worthless.
6 Natalya Does His Dance
The Mixed Match Challenge created plenty of strange partnerships and weird moments, with one of those being the combination of Shinsuke Nakamura and Natalya. The team didn't perform well inside the ring when it came to trying to gain success, which was a shame.
However, before their match, Natalya decided to try and do Nakamura's signature dance, which was awkward to watch, with Nakamura trying to stop her in the moment which led to an awkward interaction.
5 First Main Roster Loss
Shinsuke Nakamura was placed in a great position when he first arrived on WWE's main roster, and it was clear that he was being made into a big deal. However, his first loss came in a weird situation as he ended up being defeated by Jinder Mahal in a WWE Championship match.

It was a strange call to make because Mahal is nowhere near Nakamura's level inside the ring, which has been clear to see by the fact he is now back in the lower card rather than working at the top of the business as he was at that point.
4 Controversial Jinder Mahal Segment
Speaking of his feud against Jinder Mahal, another weird moment ended up taking place when the former WWE Champion cut a promo against Shinsuke Nakamura that many fans felt had racist tones. While this was something that was written for him, it was weird to watch.
The promo wasn't a good one, and having race be a key factor in the storyline between them wasn't something anybody wanted to see. It was a weird situation for people to see unfold, but is a rivalry that most fans have since forgotten about.
3 In-Zayn Podcast Appearance
Sami Zayn's feud against Johnny Knoxville was a great one that he focused on for many months, and that linked into other rivalries he had, including one with Shinsuke Nakamura. He and Rick Boogs ended up being on a talk show segment with him known as In-Zayn which was very weird.
The segment was a strange one that didn't make anybody look good, with the entire situation being awkward while Boogs then got an electric shock from the microphone which led to them both being attacked. It was so over-the-top that fans ended up hating it, as the whole thing fell flat.
2 Main Roster Debut
Whenever WWE debuts someone on the main roster it is normally a huge deal, and that was certainly the case with Shinsuke Nakamura as he was incredibly popular at that point. He was fresh from NXT and fans were excited to see him, so when his SmackDown debut happened there was a huge buzz for his entrance.

Fans went crazy singing along as he interrupted The Miz and Maryse, and it seemed obvious that it would be setting up a singles match between him and the A-Lister. However, nothing happened and he just stood there as his entrance played again, which was a weird and awkward debut.
1 Beaten By Adam Pearce
One of the weirdest decisions that WWE has made regarding Shinsuke Nakamura took place when the company had Adam Pearce defeat him. This was during a gauntlet match where the winner was set to get a title shot against Roman Reigns, and Pearce was having issues with the Tribal Chief at that point.
Because of that, he got thrown into the mix, and The Bloodline ended up getting involved to guarantee Pearce won. However, while there was a lot of outside involvement, it ended up being Nakamura that was made to look weak by losing this one.
