The late Scott Hall had a tremendous WWE career in the early 1990s and a return in the early 2000s. WWE first booked Hall under the name of Razor Ramon when he started to make a wave in the industry. The real name of Hall was used in the 2002 return since he was coming off his WCW success without a gimmick name.

Most fans think of the standout moments like Hall taking part in the iconic first televised WWE ladder match vs Shawn Michaels or the New World Order debuting in WWE. However, there were some odd moments that get overlooked throughout the years. Hall’s WWE time deserves another look back at the weird times fans forgot about.

10 Retiring Ted DiBiase In Strange Feud

Few fans remember that Razor Ramon retired Ted DiBiase since it was such a weird angle. DiBiase turned Scott Hall face for the first time with the Razor character after running him down for losing the underdog 123 Kid.

The random face turn played out when Razor stood up for himself. WWE booked Ramon to defeat DiBiase at SummerSlam 1993 that wrote the latter off television. It was stranger that WWE didn’t acknowledge this as such a peculiar storyline and match to end a legendary run.

Another moment of embarrassment for Ted DiBiase from Razor Ramon involved the 123 Kid again. However, this instance saw DiBiase and the 123 Kid on the same page when the latter turned on Razor to unite with the former’s Million Dollar Corporation faction.

WWE booked an absurd crybaby match that ended with the loser having to wear a bib, get powered and drink from a bottle. Razor placed 123 Kid in this scenario to make him pay at the end of their rivalry for betraying him. However, it was among the oddest desires for revenge from a wrestler.

8 Facing Spike Dudley In First Match Back

The first Scott Hall match in six years came in 2002 when he returned with the New World Order. A strong percentage of fans remember the first nWo match in WWE featuring the three members defeating Steve Austin and The Rock.

However, Hall wrestled two matches on his own in the weeks before that one took place. Spike Dudley was surprisingly the weird name chose for Hall since WWE wanted a squash match. Hall easily got past Spike to build up the trio’s first match as an act in the following weeks.

7 Being One Of The First Wrestlers To Insult Bret Hart's Family

Bret Hart vs. Razor Ramon

A forgotten aspect of Scott Hall’s early WWE career featured him getting a title shot on a major PPV. Razor Ramon emerged as the challenger to Bret Hart at the Royal Rumble 1993 event since the company was experimenting with younger talents challenging the new champ.

The feud stemmed from Razor being among the first wrestlers to disrespect the Hart family. Jerry Lawler was most known for this down the line, but Ramon did it to build the match rather quickly. WWE showed a lot of faith in Hall for such a role.

6 Ric Flair Drafting Him & NWO Members To Upset Vince McMahon

Ric Flair NWO

The WWE version of the New World Order flopped with everything getting worse after Hulk Hogan left them for a face turn. Vince McMahon was still attached to the nWo with Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and X-Pac as the main members entering the 2002 brand split draft.

Ric Flair chose to draft all three together to their dismay as a way to upset McMahon. However, this turned into a storyline of Flair turning heel vs Steve Austin and having the nWo help him. The draft moment of Flair picking them out of pettiness remains an odd and overlooked time.

5 Helping Ric Flair Win The WWE Championship

Razor Ramon and Ric Flair vs Randy Savage

WWE first placed Razor Ramon with Ric Flair when he was starting to get over as a new heel character. Everyone remembers Randy Savage winning the WWE Championship from Flair at WrestleMania 8, but few fans recall how Flair won it back that year.

Razor interfering in the match was a surprising twist to help Flair cheat Savage out of the title. This doesn’t get talked about as much since Flair dropped the title to Bret Hart so quickly afterwards to start a new talent’s first world title reign.

4 Goldust Getting A Tattoo With His Name

Goldust Loves Razor

The final feud for Scott Hall as Razor Ramon came in 1996 before jumping ship to WCW. Goldust was a relatively new character that used his androgynous lifestyle to make his rivals uncomfortable in the build before their matches.

This was shown when Goldust added a tattoo of the name Razor with a heart to further get in the head of Hall. WWE didn’t get to book the WrestleMania 12 match they wanted at the time since Hall was suspended for failing a drug test.

3 Managing Savio Vega In King Of The Ring Tournament

Savio Vega Razor Ramon

The original version of Razor Ramon’s character implied he was Latino since his character was based on the fictitious Cuban Tony Montana in Scarface. Scott Hall playing that character was weird enough, but WWE tried to use it as a way to unite Razor and Puerto Rico standout Savio Vega.

It grew weirder when Ramon suffered an injury ahead of the 1995 King of the Ring tournament. Vega essentially replaced Razor as the top face and made it all the way to the finals before losing to Mabel. Ramon managing Savio came off strange and lacked proper context.

2 Breaking A Cinder Block On Steve Austin's Leg

NWO Steve Austin

WWE went a surprising route at WrestleMania 18 by placing Steve Austin in a singles match with Scott Hall. Austin not wanting to work with Hogan led to The Rock vs Hogan as the show stealer, but WWE felt Hall was still as good as his Razor Ramon days to have a noteworthy singles match.

One of the forgotten parts of the build featured Hall breaking a cinder block over the leg of Austin to sell an injury. The cinder block weapon has been used a few times since then, but it was a first for WWE fans at the time watching in shock.

1 Walter Payton Helping Him Even The Odds Against Shawn Michaels & Diesel

Walter Payton Razor Ramon

Scott Hall benefited from the random use of a popular NFL player wanting to work with WWE at the time. SummerSlam 1994 featured Razor Ramon challenging Diesel for the Intercontinental Championship with Shawn Michaels in Diesel’s corner as always.

However, WWE decided to even the odds when NFL standout Walter Payton was in Razor’s corner. The show taking place in Chicago where Payton played professionally led to the audience being into it. Payton stopped Michaels from cheating and helped Hall win the title most synonymous with him.
