Commentary plays an integral part in making a pro-wrestling match entertaining. Commentators, with their knowledge, wit, and understanding of the sport, can take a match to the next level and create a much better experience for the viewer.RELATED: Every Current WWE Commentator, Ranked From Worst To BestModern-day WWE commentators don’t have the freedom that commentators of the previous generation had. This is the reason why many fans complain about mundane commentary. Even with restrictions like this, modern-day commentators have been able to create some iconic moments. But at the same time, they also have ruined quite a few moments because of their awful calls.

10 The Viking Express

The Viking Raiders WWE

Adnan Virk debuted on the Raw after WrestleMania 37. It felt like Virk wasn’t prepared for his debut as he made a major botch. When he was commentating during the Viking Raiders’ match he referred to them as the Viking Express.

Furthermore, he referred to Ivar as "Erik Ivar" several times. Doing these kinds of mistakes didn’t help him make a good impression with the fans. He was released merely six weeks after his debut.

9 Gail Kim Is Not A Female

Matt Striker made a bizarre call during the Royal Rumble match in 2011. The match started with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan as the first two entrants.

When they were trying to eliminate each other, Michael Cole and Striker had a very weird exchange. Cole said, " I'm still trying to figure out how [Daniel Bryan] ever got a girlfriend." To which Striker replied: "It's Gail Kim, it's not really a girl." This comment made zero sense and was off-putting.

8 Jim Ross Isn't Happy With X-Pac's Return

X-Pac and Triple H

After being fired from WCW, X-Pac returned to WWE right after WrestleMania 14. Jim Ross was on commentary when he showed up, and his reaction was very simple.

In a very mild fashion, Ross said, "Well, look who's back." This moment would've become much better if Ross had shown at least a little bit of excitement.

7 Let's Go Sheamus

Sheamus vs dolph ziggler no way out

In 2012, Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler battled for the World Heavyweight Championship at No Way Out. Because Ziggler was extremely popular among the fans, the arena was filled with "let's go Ziggler" chants.

But to push WWE’s narrative, Jerry Lawler said, "Listen to the WWE Universe, let’s go Sheamus." It was clear that WWE had spoonfed him this line, as they were trying to push Sheamus down the fans' throats.

6 Jonathan Coachman Confused Kane With The Undertaker

Kane vs John Cena

Jonathan Coachman had a forgettable run as a commentator when he returned to the company in 2018. Once, he made a major botch when he was commentating during a match between Kane and John Cena.

At one point, Cena lifted Kane and Coachman said, "Very few men can knock The Undertaker off his feet." Michael Cole quickly corrected him that it was Kane who was knocked off his feet.

5 Michael Cole Disrespecting Howard Finkel

Howard Finkel's return in WWE

At Survivor Series 2011, Howard Finkel returned as CM Punk's personal ring announcer.

But on the commentary table, Michael Cole kept laughing at the WWE Hall of Famer. He even made fun of Finkel's appearance, which was hugely disrespectful.

4 Cena's Free

John Cena was the special guest referee for the match between Wade Barrett and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series 2010. The stipulation was that if Barrett won, Cena would be free from The Nexus, but if Orton won, he would be fired.

The Viper ended up winning after Cena pushed Barrett into an RKO and The Cenation Leader got fired. Matt Striker ended up botching his line and said, "Cena's free!" when that certainly wasn't the case.

3 It's Christian

christian wwe return

In 2009, Christian returned to WWE and joined the ECW brand. He was a big deal, but WWE commentators probably didn't know this.

Jack Swagger (who Christian confronted) was shocked seeing his return, but Todd Grisham said: "It’s Christian". He showed no excitement over Christian's return and it ruined such a great moment for fans watching at home.

2 Michael Cole Delivers An Embarrassing Line

During an episode of Raw in September 2011, Mark Henry decimated Jerry Lawler by putting him through the commentary table. After some time, Michael Cole updated the fans on Lawler’s medical condition and said: "We understand that Jerry Lawler has bruised ribs and with all due respect, he is also suffering from anal bleeding."

He was instructed to deliver this embarrassing line by Vince McMahon, who thought it was the perfect term to describe Lawler's injuries.

1 And A Kickout By Sasha

bianca belair vs sasha banks at wrestlemania 37

Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks (for SmackDown Women's Championship) became one of the best matches of WrestleMania 37. Bianca ended up winning after delivering a Kiss Of Death to Banks.

In the midst of such a historic moment, Michael Cole ended up making a huge botch on commentary. For some reason, he thought that Sasha kicked out of Bianca's finisher and screamed, “And a kickout! A kickout by Sasha!” Although Corey Graves quickly corrected him, Cole couldn't take back what he said. He even trended on Twitter for a while after this.
