A ridiculously charismatic performer with solid in-ring skills to match, the late, great Scott Hall’s first big impression on fans was as the Tony Montana-esque Razor Ramon in WWE. After a few years, Hall jumped ship to rival WCW, where he helped change the face of wrestling as a founding member of the influential heel faction New World Order — and captured a whole lot of tag team titles with his buddy Kevin Nash along the way.

A beloved figure whose personal issues often got in the way of his professional life, Scott Hall was an accomplished wrestler, but there’s no denying that he wasn’t able to achieve all there is to achieve in the sport. Let’s take a look at Hall’s career and what

10 Compete In The Royal Rumble

Royal Rumble 1992 Match

After his WWE debut in 1992, Razor Ramon competed in Royal Rumble pay-per-views over the course of his WWE run, but they were all singles matches, mostly for the Intercontinental Championship. Shockingly, at no point in his career did Scott Hall ever take part in a Royal Rumble match — not even during his return to WWE in the early 2000s. The closest he got was taking part in three iterations of WCW’s version of the Royal Rumble: World War 3, where he won the 1997 edition to earn a World Title shot.

9 Win A Tag Team Title In WWE

Outsiders As Tag Team Champions

On the flip side, most of Scott Hall’s WCW success happened in the tag team division. As one half of The Outsiders with Kevin Nash, Hall held the World Tag Team Title six times, feuding with such opponents as tag division mainstays Harlem Heat and the Steiner Brothers. Interestingly, Hall had no such luck in WWE’s tag team division. That isn’t to say that he didn’t have opportunities, however: as Razor Ramon, he had seven shots at the Tag Team Championship, teaming with 1-2-3 Kid as well as his kayfabe childhood friend Savio Vega.

8 Defeat Goldberg In A Singles Match

In late 1998, Scott Hall took part in a controversial finish in the main event of WCW’s Starrcade ‘98. As Kevin Nash challenged Goldberg for the World Title in a babyface vs babyface match, Hall interfered in the finish, hitting Goldberg with a stun gun, seemingly unbeknownst to a distracted Nash. On top of helping his friend get the belt, Hall also ended Goldberg’s legendary winning streak.

Of course, Goldberg sought retribution against Hall, and the two clashed in a “Stun Gun Ladder Match” at Souled Out ‘99, where the winner was the one who climbed the ladder, retrieved said weapon, and used it on his opponent. Goldberg won the match, and Hall was never able to defeat WCW’s homegrown phenomenon.

7 Team With His Son

Like many wrestlers, Scott Hall had a child enter the wrestling business. Debuting in 2010, Cody Hall spent a couple years wrestling on the indies before moving on to Japan, where he wrestled for New Japan Pro-Wrestling — where he was the Bullet Club’s devoted Young Lion — as well as Pro Wrestling NOAH and DDT. While he teamed up with his father’s friends Kevin Nash and X-Pac, Cody Hall and Scott Hall never teamed up for a match, as the elder Hall pretty much stopped wrestling after 2010.

6 Beat Hiroshi Tanahashi

Speaking of New Japan, Scott Hall himself was no stranger to the King of Sport during his in-ring career, wrestling for the promotion in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 2001, after leaving WCW, Hall enjoyed another run in NJPW that lasted about six months. During this stint, Hall clashed with a young Hiroshi Tanahashi, who was only a couple of years into his pro wrestling career. Tanahashi scored the win after less than five minutes in what was the only in-ring clash between the two.

5 Become King Of The Ring

WWE: King of the Ring (1995)

In WWE, there are a number of accomplishments wrestlers can achieve beyond simply winning championships. While its importance has diminished in the 21st century, King of the Ring was, for a time, a prestigious annual tournament where the winner not only (usually) got a big push afterwards, but also got to wear a crown and a cape and carry a scepter. During his time in WWE, Razor Ramon took part in two iterations of the tournament — 1993 and 1994 — but was never able to make it to the final round.

4 Have A Retirement Match

In pro wrestling, as in life, nothing is guaranteed. Some wrestlers get to have a lengthy run and enjoy the spotlight one last time, some suffer injuries that force them out of competition, and others continue on until their careers peter out for one reason or another. Scott Hall turned out, sadly, to be in the last category.

Hall’s final “normal” matches were for Impact Wrestling in 2010, but his final official match happened in 2016 when he pinned Chuck Taylor in a brief match to win the DDT’s comedy title, the Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship.

3 Lead His Own Faction

The formation of The nWo.

One of Scott Hall’s greatest contributions to pro wrestling was his participation in the New World Order, a heel faction engaging in a hostile takeover of WCW. The nWo proved to be highly influential, resulting in no shortage of rip-offs and homages across multiple promotions. Scott Hall was even a member of some of these post-nWo groups, but curiously was never necessarily the leader of any group he was involved in. Over the years, Hall was part of groups like Impact’s Kings of Wrestling and The Band, but was always an ensemble player rather than the sole guy running the show.

2 Beat Hulk Hogan In A Singles Match

When the nWo first revealed itself in the summer of 1996, it was just a trio composed of Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and a newly heel Hulk Hogan, who reinvented himself as Hollywood Hogan. In the years that followed, Hogan and Hall weren’t always on the same side, especially when the nWo was divided into nWo Hollywood and nWo Wolfpac. That said, while his friend Kevin Nash clashed with Hogan on a few occasions, Hall only had one opportunity in a bout on a July 1998 episode of Monday Nitro that ended in a No Contest.

1 Become A (Major) World Champion

Looking back on Scott Hall’s career, “the bad guy” was certainly a decorated champion, considering his numerous tag titles and his runs with WWE’s Intercontinental Championship. Despite his popularity and in-ring abilities, Hall — though he certainly tried, in kayfabe — was never able to capture a major world title like the WWE Championship or the WCW World Title. He did hold top belts in Memphis’ USWA and Puerto Rico’s World Wrestling Council, but those were arguably regional belts compared to those of the bigger promotions.
